I am hardly able to speak because I can't believe this is true because I never earn any money. But today I won a $20,000 poetry grant from the Elizabeth George Foundation. The check is in my hands and I keep looking to see if it really says $20. But it doesn't.

Congratulations! I have been enjoying reading the excerpts you've been posting from your Milton book. What does the grant entail? How exciting is that!!!

The grant is a "now you have time to write" grant, which in my case means a "time for continuing to crap around but with less heartburn" grant. My boys are very excited, but they think it would have been even more exciting if I'd made money off scratch tickets instead of poetry. I'm sure they're thinking of lying to people about it.

I can think of a 1,000 ways to poetically spend it too, such as on food and the electric bill. Although I'm hoping for maybe another one of those trips to Quebec. . . .

Congrats! This is awesome news. Currently, I think you are copy editing a collection of essays my wife and I put together, and we're ecstatic to know you're the one doing the copy editing. $20,000 dollars--whoa--that is a lot of money!
