He loves fantasy and sci-fi and dystopian lit (and gaming and D & D, etc.). He was dissing C.S. Lewis for being too Christian, but then agreed that every game/fantasy series has its own Aslan. Then I mentioned Milton and his influence on fantasy lit and use of Biblical language/myth and then Blake, but, alas, the young man had not read either of them. nancynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6540771071400993487.post-57289854267474609792020-09-26T12:25:58.004-04:002020-09-26T12:25:58.004-04:00Fascinating.Fascinating.David X. Paul and I were researching New Testament references to the statement "I am legion," which is a perfect example of how video games coop the biblical language of power . . . and one that Carruth also uses.Dawn Potterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07500960150846895633noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6540771071400993487.post-43983642824088862862020-09-26T10:12:53.173-04:002020-09-26T10:12:53.173-04:00^That was to be "muscularity" but a swit...^That was to be "muscularity" but a switch occurred without my noticing.David X. He had a lot to say about how that tonal shift has become an inherent part of video games and sci-fi media . . . an interesting thought: that even in our largely secular, non-Bible-reading society, the bardic cadence--the lineage of Baldwin, Whitman, Bradstreet, Milton--remains powerful."<br /><br />An interesting thought to be sure! Perhaps you and he can develop it into a joint essay. I've sometimes noted how the musculature of the King James Version courses through so much.David X.
