Teaching & Editing

Visiting writer
My writing workshops and professional development sessions help students and teachers recognize that reading and discussing a variety of poems can inspire their own poetry and increase their understanding of revision and analysis. I work with K-12 students as well as adult writers, and I have been a guest teacher at Smith College, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, the Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance, the Solstice MFA program, Westover School, and many other venues.

Manuscript critique
For two decades, I have been editing manuscripts for literary, academic, and educational presses such as Rutgers University Press, CavanKerry Press, and Merrill/Prentice Hall. I have also reviewed numerous unpublished manuscripts for individual poets and prose writers.
Please note that I am an editor, not a publisher. I cannot guarantee that your manuscript will be published, and I have no strings to pull at any press. What I can do is read your work carefully for style, syntax, grammar, and punctuation; I can offer structural advice and can share my opinion about points that seem stronger or weaker within your manuscript.

My rates are reasonable, but they do vary depending on how heavy an edit you require. I am happy to provide references.

If you are interested in talking to me about editing or reviewing your manuscript, please get in touch via the Contact Form on the sidebar.
